MERIDIAN FARM MARKET MISSION
Meridian Farm Market's latest grocery store, in Mission, is located in the middle of a busy commercial area, alongside a stretch of modern retail shops and businesses. Even though we had created a brand story centred on bringing back the rustic roadside vegetable stand, for the Mission store we wanted to push the concept further and channel a modern farmhouse feel.
HELLO, COUNTRY FARMHOUSE
The building itself was previously a Salvation Army, so to make it feel more residential, we gutted the interiors and covered the new floors in classic black-and-white checkered stone tile.
In addition to a base of commercial lights, we incorporated soft drop-globes and periwinkle-coloured milk glass pendant lights (reminiscent of grandma's porcelain dolls) throughout the whole store, so it would feel more cozy and less like a grocery store.
THAT PERSONAL TOUCH
We went to Napier's Antiques and sourced dozens and dozens of antique trunks, baskets, jugs and apple crates to stack over fridge units and vegetable displays. As a result, the commercial shell is softened by personal possessions and the types of cherished collections someone would have in their own home. Scandinavian-inspired black steel pendant lights and white-washed rafters and cladding make the farmhouse aesthetic look even more chic.
MERIDIAN'S MOST POPULAR STORE TO DATE
As much as we wanted to build a store that felt part of the original community, we also wanted it to be totally different from everything else in modern Mission—something bright, fresh and charming that would really stand out.
